Why Google Loves WordPress For SEO

Google spam team member, Matt Cutts says that WordPress is a fantastic choice for SEO.   Matt spoke at a WordCamp  conference in San Francisco where there was over 700 bloggers anxious to hear what he had to say.

Matt, point blank said that WordPress is preferred by the search engines because it solves 80-90% of the mechanics of SEO.  It other words, it make it super easy for the search engines to crawl a WordPress blog site for relevant information.

Here is a couple of other Google secrets for moving your WordPress Blog up in seo rankings.

  • Relevant Content: Your content is important.   Make sure your content has the appropriate keywords in your discussion.  Use those keywords in a natural way.  Google knows when you’re just stuffing your post with keywords for the sake of the search engines and they don’t like it.
  • Your Reputation: What are people saying about you?  Are you mentioned in other blogs, websites, forums and other social media?  Do people talk about your site and link to you?   Links from reputable websites and blogs give your blog high quality links… and that make a difference.

Matt advices not to get caught up in all the small things but to make sure you spend your time writing great content… targeted to your specific audience.  If your content is valuable to your fans, they will spread the word and that’s the most important.

If you want to hear it straight from the horses mouth… Here’s Matt Cutts from San Fransisco.

In this video, I found Matt’s additional suggestions to be most helpful in getting my site moving  up in seo ranking.   Take a look now!

Hope you enjoyed the video.  For marketing and promotion basics… WordPress is the best.

  1. I absolutely love WordPress. It is easy to use, has fantastic plugins and wonderful themes. I started working with WordPress about 5 years ago through a class I took with Jeanette Cates. I had not idea about anything internet or web site oriented at all. Today I develop website for clients and enjoy it.

I do not know of any other website platform which is as easy to use, customizable, and flexible to use as WordPress.

    Great post Kathryn,

    Hi Kathryn,

WordPress rocks! Today you can even use WordPress as a platform for your entire website, it’s not just for blogs anymore. I love to set up WordPress for my clients because it’s a great CMS and it makes it easy for them to update their own sites.

    Great post!

I use WordPress because it allows me to build a site quickly and easily. I use Thesis Theme which is great for SEO and at a great price too. And since WordPress has so many plugins, you can do amazing things without hiring a programmer.

  4. I had herd that WordPress Sites had great built in SEO. I just went with what I was told and I am glad I did.

I now have 22 sites on WordPress. Love it.

Like you said, it is good to hear it from the horses mouth.

  5. Like Rodney, I also use Thesis as my theme, one reason being its optimization tweaks. I use WordPress because so many said it was ‘the only way’, and me being new, went with herd. Fortunately the herd seems to have been right on this occasion!

Thank you for these thoughts, Kathryn

    Hi Kathryn:

I am only familiar with wordpress and I just find the system is so user friendly. One picks a template, download a couple of plugin, set up a couple of pages, and write a post and your blog/site is all done. Don’t forget the widgets, categories and tags.
